Scarlett Johansson Talks 'Ghost In The Shell' Costume

One of the films coming next month is the live-action adaptation of the anime, Ghost In The Shell, in which the main character, Major Motoko Kusanagi, is seen baring her skin most of the time. However this cannot be said for the live-action version

“As soon as I saw [the anime], I was like, ‘Obviously I’m not naked. We’ve all agreed I’m not naked, right?’” Scarlett Johansson, who plays Major, told to Total Film. Furthermore her character wears a more skin-tight catsuit to mimic what can be seen in the anime.

Conversely this would not be Johansson's first time in a catsuit costume, having already played in one for Black Widow in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The actress does however that her Ghost In The Shell get up is far better than Widow's one. “This suit’s easier to wear and easier to fight in than Black Widow’s,” Johansson said. “The Black Widow suit is a neoprene fabric, and at times it’s been leather – which was awful. This is a silicone-based material, so you could get shredded in it, but just your suit, not your actual body. I burned through a lot of them. It was like, ‘There’s another one!’”

Based on the internationally-acclaimed sci-fi property, Ghost In The Shell follows the Major, a special ops, one-of-a-kind human-cyborg hybrid, who leads the elite task force Section 9. Devoted to stopping the most dangerous criminals and extremists, Section 9 is faced with an enemy whose singular goal is to wipe out Hanka Robotics advancements in cyber technology.

Ghost In The Shell stars Scarlett Johansson, Pilou Asbæk, Michael Pitt, Juliette Binoche, Kaori Momoi, Rila Fukushima, Chin Han, Danusia Samal, Lasarus Ratuere, Yutaka Izumihara, and Tuwanda Manyimo. The film is also directed by Rupert Sanders.

Ghost In The Shell releases March 31, 2017.
