Mel Gibson In Early Talks To Direct 'Suicide Squad' Sequel

The Hacksaw Ridge director is being eyed by Warner Brothers.

Mel Gibson has been courted by the studio to direct the sequel to Suicide Squad, along with Daniel Espinosa, Ruben Fleischer, and Jonathan Levine also being eyed as other candidates to helm the project.

An official offer has not been sent out nor has any commitment. Warner Bros. wish for Gibson to familiarise himself with the lore around the DC Comics' property of the same name, and may then be the helmer for the project.

It should be noted that no frontrunner for the directing position has been made known.

David Ayer, the director of the first outing, which starred actors like Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Jai Courtney, Joel Kinnaman, and Jared Leto, has been tasked to make another DC film. This feature would revolve around Robbie's Harley Quinn along with other Gotham City Sirens like Catwoman and Poison Ivy. Therefore making the studio search for new talent for the Suicide Squad sequel.

Warner Bros and or Gibson had no comment on the matter.
