While a script is being written by Henry Gayden, New Line Cinema are actively searching for a director for one of their upcoming DC films, Shazam.
It now looks like they may have found their helmer for the project. Sweden-born director, David F. Sandberg, who directed the upcoming Annabelle 2 film, is in talks to direct the DC Comics adaptation for New Line. Having already made a successful film in Lights Out which made $148 million on a $4.9 million budget for the studio, Sandberg obviously became someone they would want to keep around.
Shazam will tell the story of a young boy, Billy Batson, who gets imbued with the power of Shazam, when he shouts out that name. Batson, when in Shazam form, has the powers that include: the wisdom of Solomon, the strength of Hercules, the stamina of Ares, the power of Zeus, the courage of Achilles and the speed of Mercury.
Recently the film was split into two, one revolving around Shazam, the other centring around Black Adam, who will be played by Dwayne Johnson, the latter serving as a more origin story for the DC anit-hero. Both will take place in the DC Films' Universe.
No date has been set for both films.
