Let's Talk All Things 'Deadpool 2'; An Omnibus Of Info

Recently we have been given some new information about the sequel to 20th Century Fox's Deadpool, like who is returning, how will certain characters be brought to life, and more. So here is an omnibus of sorts, compiling the pieces of information.

We will be seeing the return of the characters of Negasonic Teenage Warhead and Colossus, as the writers, Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, told in an interview that, "Yeah, [Negasonic Teenage Warhead and Colossus]’ll make at least an appearance." The two first showed up in the first film, both being the bridge that connects Deadpool to the X-Men world.

Following up with the confirmation of those two showing up in the film, along with characters like Cable and Domino, the writers teased that Deadpool 2 will in someway tease X-Force, which is the black operations version of X-Men.

"There is a responsibility we have to the X-Force universe," Reese said. "I do think we will not disappoint the fans going into Deadpool 2 and then setting up X-Force and beyond."

"We never want to let the tail wag the dog," said Wernick. "We want to tell the best Deadpool story we can. But I do think we have a responsibility to think about a larger universe in the way that Marvel does and start to put pieces in place. Some of these movies feel overstuffed and almost choking with the need to set up eighteen different things that pay off down the road, and we want to avoid that responsibility to the extent that it hurts us. We want to hint at things, we want to plan some characters, and we want to make some nods, but we’re very, very cognizant about making sure that Deadpool is above all a Deadpool movie."

"Its purpose is not to set up X-Force," Reese said. "It will likely set up X-Force, but the drive of the movie won’t be our eyes on Movie 3.Yeah, they’ll make at least an appearance."

Speaking of bringing other X-Men characters, the sequel will indeed bring the badass mutant of Cable to life. Lauren Shuler Donner, producer for some of the X-Men, told recently in an interview that they will make some announcement as to who will play the character soon, “No casting announcement. It will happen soon. When the right time comes along and we’re ready. We have a list.”

Wernick and Reese, have also been asked recently about the character of Cable too. Both were asked about bringing in the character to the fold, and some of the things that entails.

"It’s intimidating because we have to find his voice," Wernick said of the writing process for the character. "We don’t have an actor yet so we don’t know who we’re writing for. Most screenwriting happens without cast in place, but sequels it’s a little bit different and it’s likely that part will get cast, and we’ll get to continue writing it and honing it for that actor, which I think is a good thing. There’s been so many diverse people that have been brought up as possibilities for Cable, and who have not been brought up but we’re considering. And that, much like with Ryan [Reynolds], that decision will greatly impact his cadences, his rhythms. And we’ll certainly make him like he is in the comics, and we’ll certainly be faithful, but I do think that voice will inform us quite a bit."

"I think authenticity is so important," Reese said. "I think part of what made Deadpool such a success, I think we’re going to continue that authenticity."

"So with Cable, he’s got such a convoluted past, and such a convoluted origin story that I think we’re going to try to leave that, not mysterious, but there are a lot of twists and turns, cloning and all this stuff where you go, “Oh my God. How do we get that across in a two hour movie?” Wernick said. "I think we’re going to distil him down to his essence. It will be authentic and faithful, but it’s not going to include the 18,000 details if you were going to read a Wikipedia page about Cable you’d roll your eyes."

So all of this is what has been said recently about Deadpool 2 and now you are up to date on the film itself.

Deadpool 2 will be directed by David Leitch, written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick and will be produced by Ryan Reynolds who will also reprise his role as the Merc with the Mouth.
