Cameron, who is the progenitor of the human versus Skynet battle plotline, is taking some steps to bring back the franchise into a new age. He has tapped Deadpool director and VFX guru, Tim Miller, to direct a reboot and conclusion for the film series. Cameron in 2019, will get back certain rights to his creation, and is clearly making steps to make it his own having not being involved with the franchise since the blockbuster hit, Terminator 2: Judgment Day.
Skydance Productions, David Ellison, who co-financed Terminator Genisys, is a part of this process by getting prime science fiction writers to invest, creatively, in making the reboot.
