'Thor: Ragnarok' To Feature Sakaar; Will Be Inspired By Jack Kirby's Work

Thor: Ragnarok will be Marvel Studios' final film coming out next year and will see the Asgardian God tackling a few issues at hand.

The film will also answer why Thor wasn't in Civil War.

Well thanks to some info from Total Film we now have a clearly picture as to why he wasn't in the film. For starters his father, Odin, has gone missing - for which Thor will get help from Doctor Strange to find him - and then for seconds a threat of realm-ending proportions has come to the forefront thanks to Hela, Asgardian goddess of death, who will be played by Cate Blanchett.

But that is not all we will see. "I was talking with the guys at Marvel, even before Taika [Waititi] came on. It was about: 'How can we show something of this world that people haven't seen?'" Chris Hemsworth, Thor, told the magazine.

The answer was of course a change of scenery in this case it was to go to Sakaar. "Sakaar was just an insane, far-off, futuristic place which was the biggest shift for the film and these characters," Hemsworth said.

Sakaar is where we will see the reunion of Hemsworth's Thor and Mark Ruffalo's Hulk, who will have made a name for himself as a gladiator similar to the character's arc in the Planet Hulk comic-run.

Not only all of this but it seems that for Marvel readers, who are fans of Jack Kirby's work, you might see a lot of his work come to life. "I was really excited when Kevin and the rest of Marvel jumped on board with the idea to use [Jack] Kirby as a big influence in the design of the film," Waititi explained. "What's really hard is staying authentic."

Now while we will see some returning faces in Thor, Loki, and Odin, we will also see some new faces in the form of Cate Blanchett as Hela, Jeff Goldblum as Grandmaster, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, and Karl Urban as Skurge. "The idea was always to take those first two [Thor] movies and look at what they had to offer," Waititi noted. "But also, try not to make another episode. Try to make something very different."

Ragnarok stars Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Idris Elba as Heimdall, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/The Hulk, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Anthony Hopkins as Odin, with Cate Blanchett as Hela, Jeff Goldblum as Grandmaster, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, and Karl Urban as Skurge.

Thor: Ragnarok, the third installment of Marvel’s popular Norse Super Hero, is directed by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Taika Waititi (“Two Cars, One Night,” “What We Do in the Shadows,” “Hunt for the Wilderpeople”).  Kevin Feige will produce the film, joined by executive producers Louis D’Esposito, Brad Winderbaum, Victoria Alonso, Thomas M. Hammel and Stan Lee. Also the film's composer is Mark Mothersbaugh.

The film will release 27th October 2017 in Ireland and the UK and on the 3rd of November of 2017 in the USA.
