Ben Affleck Promises Jeremy Irons Will Be Busy In 'The Batman'

Alfred in Batman v Superman
Expect a more busier Alfred Pennyworth in Ben Affleck's The Batman at least busier than what he will be doing in Zack Snyder's Justice League. Alfred, who is played by Jeremy Irons, will be featured in the superhero team-up film in some capacity but will of course be a crucial part as Bruce Wayne's guardian and butler.

Irons recently talked about his character and how Affleck promised much more from him in the Caped Crusader's solo film. "I have spoken to Ben. In Justice League, we have seven superheroes, and that means Alfred's not that busy in the movie," Irons said. "I said to Ben, 'I hope I'm busier in yours.' And he said to me, 'You will be.' He knows my proclivities."

Earlier in another interview Irons again mentioned that Affleck promises more Alfred. "[Ben] promises me there’s going to be a bit more of Alfred in that," Irons explained. "In the “Justice League” we have seven major lead characters and I’m the butler to one of them. It’s clear I will not be dominating that film."

One thing I take from his comments, besides the obvious notion of Alfred having more to do, is the seven superheroes in Justice League. Currently we know that the League will compromise of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg, and The Flash, so who is the seventh? Personally, while there have been whispers of Green Lantern popping in the film, I feel that the seventh will be Amber Heard's Mera, who is Aquaman's cohort and is a formidable superheroine, possessing magic and the strength of an Atlantean to boot.

Fuelled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Justice League is directed by Zack Snyder and stars Henry Cavill as Clark Kent/Superman, Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Gal Gadot as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman, Ezra Miller as Barry Allen/The Flash, Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry/Aquaman, Ray Fisher as Victor Stone/Cyborg, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, J.K. Simmons as Commissioner James Gordon, Amber Heard as Mera, Willem Dafoe as Vulko, Ciaran Hinds as Steppenwolf, and Kiersey Clemons as Iris West.

Justice League hits theatres November 17, 2017.
